Audi emphasizes that it prioritized the user interface and accommodations when designing the new 2025 SQ6 e-tron and Q6 e-tron. This is a strategic decision considering that modern cars are essentially high-tech gadgets on wheels. While Audis are known for their stylish interiors, this design approach doesn’t necessarily revolutionize the brand. Luckily, the SQ6 has more than just a great interior to offer.

The Q6 and SQ6 are pivotal for Audi’s electric vehicle journey, marking a significant milestone with the introduction of the new Android Auto-based infotainment system. These models are the first to utilize the Volkswagen Group’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE) platform, shared with the Porsche Macan EV. Positioned between the Q4 e-tron and Q8 e-tron in terms of size, they serve as electric alternatives to Audi’s popular Q5 and SQ5 models. While the European-spec Q6 we tested in Spain had less power, we’ll delve into the sportier SQ6 variant for now.

Inside Out
Audi’s latest interior design strikes a perfect balance between style and functionality. The SQ6 model leans towards style, offering red accents in the upholstery and a sleek LED light bar that not only looks great but also provides useful information like turn signals and navigation cues. The overall look is clean and elegant, with thoughtful details like a convenient ledge on the dashboard for resting your hand while using the large touchscreen. The system includes a 11.9-inch instrument display and an optional 10.9-inch passenger touchscreen for entertainment, all seamlessly integrated with climate and vehicle controls. Despite its advanced features, we found it intuitive and easy to use even while driving in unfamiliar territory.

Assisting us in getting used to the new features were a cutting-edge AI voice assistant, a convenient head-up display with augmented-reality navigation, and top-of-the-line Bang & Olufsen audio systems with up to 830 watts and 20 speakers, including two in each front headrest. Despite most of the limited secondary controls being of the capacitive-touch variety on smudge-prone piano-black panels, we rarely encountered illogical ergonomics, thanks to the supremely quiet cabin that kept our blood pressure low. The SQ6’s sport seats provided excellent support for long periods, and even though the SUV’s 37.4 inches of rear legroom are slightly less than the SQ5, a near-six-foot author had no trouble getting comfortable behind his own driving position.

All of this comes wrapped in a sleek yet traditional sheetmetal design that closely resembles the Q6. The SUV boasts an appealing look, complete with striking fender bulges that add a touch of elegance to its sides. However, those seeking to make a bolder statement may opt to hold out for the upcoming Sportback models, set to debut after the SUVs hit the market later this year. Additionally, the higher-performance RS models are also set to make an appearance. One of the standout features of the design is the lighting elements, which include cutting-edge OLED taillights that can be customized in eight different patterns on the top-tier Prestige trim levels. Unfortunately, the active high-beam function of the matrix LED headlights, standard on the SQ6 and optional on the Q6, will not be operational in the U.S.

Polished Performance
The Q6 lineup will come with dual motors and rear-biased all-wheel drive, with the SQ6 delivering 483 horsepower that increases to 510 horses with launch control (dual-motor Q6 models in the US will have 422 and 456 horsepower, respectively). Audi doesn’t provide a combined torque figure, but we believe the SQ6 generates more than 500 pound-feet, which should assist this approximately 5500-pound SUV in reaching 60 mph in about four seconds.

AUDI
The Q6 sets itself apart from the Macan EV with various chassis tweaks: Audi opts out of rear-wheel steering found in the Porsche, adjusts the rear power unit layout, and opts for a more affordable induction AC front motor instead of the Macan’s permanent-magnet unit. Despite the SQ6’s somewhat clinical driving dynamics, it still lives up to its impressive specifications. When driven with enthusiasm, it swiftly maneuvers through corners and effortlessly overtakes slower vehicles for seamless highway merges. The SQ6 exudes refinement and sophistication, showcasing exceptional body control and a balanced ride quality on the optional 21-inch wheels and summer tires (standard 20-inch wheels come with all-season rubber). The precise steering and responsive brake pedal instill confidence, especially on narrow, wet roads.

Switching to Dynamic mode enhances the SQ6’s responsiveness and triggers the futuristic EV sounds, while the customizable soundtrack can be muted. The standard air springs and optional adaptive dampers on the Q6 effortlessly absorb bumps without any excessive body roll. Steering-wheel paddles offer additional control over regenerative braking, allowing for up to 0.25 g of braking force in the strongest setting. Different modes let you adjust deceleration to your preference, but Auto mode proves to be a smart choice, adjusting the vehicle’s speed based on navigation data and external sensors.

Charging and Pricing
The Q6 e-trons come equipped with a 94.4-kWh battery, providing an estimated range of 276 miles for the SQ6 and around 300 miles for the Q6. The standout feature is the PPE’s 800-volt electrical system, enabling DC fast-charging at up to 270 kilowatts in optimal conditions. Audi states that charging from 10 to 80 percent should take approximately 21 minutes, with an additional 135 miles of range added in just 10 minutes. Moreover, at 400-volt stations, the PPE can split the battery in two and charge both halves simultaneously at up to 135 kilowatts, reducing the overall charging time. For level 2 AC charging, a standard 9.6-kW onboard charger is included, with an optional 19.2-kW unit to be available later. Practical features like dual charging doors, a 4400-pound towing capacity, and 30 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats further enhance the Q6 e-trons’ appeal.
