Gov’t to offer lockdown relief package through Mobile Money

While delivering his address about COVID-19 on Friday June 18, President Yoweri Museveni directed the Office of the Prime Minister led by Hon Robinah Nabbanja to hold an immediate meeting and identify items that government can support with the vulnerable groups during the 42 days of lockdown.

The Prime Minister’s office has today sat and resolved that government will not distribute food and other items just like how they did during last year’s lockdown but rather offer monetary support to these groups. Nabbanja says money will be sent using mobile money and the voucher system.

“We have agreed and decided that any support that will be provided to the persons most affected by the lockdown measures will be through cash tokens and not physical food distribution,” said Nabbanja.

According to our sources, each family is likely to receive at least Shs100000.
