President Musiveni appoints Jessica Alupo as new vice president

The president of the republic of Uganda General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed retired major Jessica Alupo as the vice President in his 6th term in power.

The president of the republic of Uganda General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed retired major Jessica Alupo as the vice President in his 6th term in power.

The President informed the country about Jessica Alupo’s appointment as the vice president through a statement that was released by the State House Press team.

“I hereby inform the country that by virtue of the Authority given to the President of Uganda by Articles: 108(2), 108A(1), 113(1) and 114(1) of the 1995 Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, I hereby appoint H.E. the Vice President, Rt. Hon. Prime Minister, Honourable Cabinet Ministers and other Ministers as indicated below,” President Museveni expounded.

The vice President elect  is a former military officer and is the 2nd female Ugandan to be appointed as vice president during Museveni’s regime after the appointment of Wandela Kazzibwe from 1994 to 2003 an appointment that made her the first woman in Africa to hold the position of vice-president of a sovereign nation.

The 47 year old Alupo was born on 23rd May 1974 in katakwi district, studied at Makerere University and served as the ministry of education since 2011 after replacing the then Minister of Education Namirembe Bitamazire.
