Moyo district Police in a joint operation with the Military have intercepted a motorcade belonging to supporters of the National Unity Platform party president, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine.
According to multiple sources, the motorcade was led by a renowned People Power mobiliser, Sauda Madaada who was accompanied by Mutebi Abbi and Apollo Ariho, an aide to Kawempe North MP hopeful, Muhammad Ssegirinya. At the time of the interception, Sauda had gone to pin posters and banners belonging to presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu.
Various reports indicate that Sauda is at large and in hiding while her colleagues have been arrested and taken to Moyo police station to face charges we are yet to establish. Theis vehicle and campaign materials have been impounded by the police.
Our efforts to contact Sauda on her telephone contact went futile with her number being unavailable. We however managed to speak to one of the Northern Uganda NUP coordinators, Obedgiu Samuel who intimated that there is a witch hunt on Bobi Wine agents throughout districts of the North. “I myself was in prison a few days back for coordinating NUP activities,” he says. “In the North, supporting Bobi Wine means facing off with the police and military,” he adds.
PeoplePower supporters have already gone to their online platforms to condemn the endless police brutality on their colleagues. “This is unbecoming. We all thought the revival of multiparty democracy would work but it appears like the police wants us to support one political party,” fumes Bakaluba Alex in his comment. “How come NRM primaries are conducted smoothly without any police interruptions. We instead see them providing security,” another commenter writes.
